Tokens of friendship from across the Atlantic — ‘y’all’ included. A week worth every bit of the scheduling. At a moment when Europe and, in fact, the entire world feel tense, transatlantic friendship and exchange matter even more. International visitors made us notice what people within our bubble have stopped seeing.
Eight teaching students from UNC Greensboro School of Education were with us at Universität Tübingen this past week. A partnership rooted in Physical Education and our English Department joined in enthusiastically.
Our guests — future English, elementary, and Special Education teachers — sat in on several TEFL seminars and the introductory lecture, met trainee teachers (Referendare) at the Studienseminar, and visited classrooms at local high schools and comprehensive schools (Gymnasium/Gemeinschaftsschule).
They also made their way through Tübingen’s prettiest and most storied corners on a student-designed scavenger hunt: clever puzzles that demanded real conversations with the people they met along the way.
Now I hope this exchange finds continuity.
