The Other, set against social norms, expectations, and duties, has fascinated me for as long as I can think back. My deep-seated hunch: language learning, cultural exchange, the experience of literary reading, and ecological thinking stand in close interplay and condition learning empathy and critical thought. What occupies me is how knowledge arises, takes effect, and gets passed on – especially at margins and contact zones. Therefore, my research interests:
- intercultural teaching & learning
- environmental thought & the teaching of English
- (multiple) literacies, language skills (especially reading & writing), and the uses of “artificial intelligence”
- inclusive education, heterogeneity, diversity, & language learning
- teaching EFL through literature, film, & other media
